Chef's Notes:

Press and starch all fabrics prior to cutting. Use a scant 1/4" seam.

INGREDIENTS

From fabric 1, cut:
{A} (4) 5” squares – cut in half on the diagonal corner to corner

From fabric 2, cut:
{B} 3” squares – cut in half on the diagonal corner to corner

From fabric 3, cut:
{C} [4] 2½” squares
{D} [2] 3” squares – cut in half on the diagonal corner to corner

From fabric 4, cut:
{E} [1) 3⅜” square

From fabric 5, cut:
{C} [4] 2½” squares

INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1. MAKE FANCY HALF SQUARE TRIANGLES

Place the Fabric 2 with RST (right sides together) on top of the Fabric C square. Sew along short edge. Press open.Place a second Fabric B triangle with RST (right sides together) on top of the Fabric 2 & 3 unit so that the short edge is to the left of the piece just sewn. Sew along short edge. Press open and you should have a triangle (see illustration). Place a Fabric 1 triangle on top of the unit formed above with RST and sew along the long edge (the bias edge). Press open. You now have a Fancy Half Square Triangle. Trim to 4.5” for the 12” block (Trim to 6.5” for the 18” block).

Repeat for the remaining Fabric 3 squares and Fabric 5 squares. So that you have 4 FHST with Fabric 3 and 4 FHST with Fabric 5.

STEP 2. MAKE CENTER POINT SQUARES

For the center point squares of the block you will need  [1] Fabric 4 Square and [4] Fabric 3 Triangles. Sew the Fabric 3 triangles to the top and bottom of the center square (using ¼” seam) along the long edge of the triangles. Press open. Sew the last two Fabric 3 fabric triangles to the left and right of the center square sewing (using ¼” seam) along the long edge of the triangles. Press open. The completed Center Point Squares should be trimmed to 4.5” for 12” Block and 6.5’ for the 18” Block.

STEP 3. ASSEMBLE BLOCK

Join blocks units as shown. Trim the block to 12.5” or 18.5” unfinished block size
