Make & Take - Charm Pillow Wreath

Make & Take - Charm Pillow Wreath

There are a few more supplies required, but we'll get to that in a moment.

The first thing you need to know is that this adorable pillow wreath was designed by Kimberly of Crafting Cheerfully.  When she shared a wreath made with Deb Strain's Bee Grateful collection, we knew we had to make one.  At least.  (And probably more than that.)

We used Kim's terrific Pillow Wreath instructions to make this wreath using one charm pack of Sweetwater's Red Barn Christmas.  (We didn't make the embroidery hoop in the center.)

The 5" squares for this wreath were cut from a Layer Cake of Sweetwater's Red Barn Christmas, so I also cut a matching strip to be used to attach the pillow to the wreath.  After tying the pillow to the wreath form, the ends of the strip were cut to approx. 1½" long.  (And yes, I might have used more than 32 squares/pillows.)

This is a good project for beginning sewists, and it's also kid-friendly.

This is the list of supplies:

While stitching the charm squares for the first wreath, I had an idea for a simple variation.

For these pillows, the charm square was folded in half with right sides together.  On the long side, I stitched a ¼" seam, leaving a 1½" to 2" opening in the middle of the seam.  The seam was pressed open, and the tube turned right-side-out.  It was then pressed again.

Then the two ends were stitched a ¼" from the ends.

The pillows were stuffed, and machine-stitched closed.  (I'm lazy that way.) (And yes, these charm squares are from BasicGrey's Hustle & Bustle.  Leftovers from something else.)

I like how these pillows look like pieces of wrapped candy.  This wreath was made with Me & My Sister Designs' Merry and Bright collection.

The finished pillows were tied onto the wreath form using waxed cotton cording per Kim's instructions.

Kim has a Pillow Wreath Archive sharing wreaths made for St. Patrick's Day and New Year's.

We're already stashing charm packs of Stacy Iest Hsu's Holiday Essentials - Americana, Halloween, Christmas and Love - and looking for Fig Tree's Pumpkin and Blossoms. And as soon as Midnight Magic 2 arrives, there's a good chance we'll be making a Halloween version.

If you missed it, the instructions on how to make this Pillow Wreath can be found here - Crafting Cheerfully Pillow Wreath.

I'm thinking we should have bought more fiberfill and wreath forms...
