A Christmas wreath hanging on the front door lets you know a warm holiday spirit awaits within.

"Welcome Home" is the first of three blocks I have designed for the 2019 Countdown to Christmas. This block is made entirely of half-square triangles, and can be made in three sizes - 18", 12" and 6" (finished sizes). Personally, I would make this block in the 18" size, and wait to make it my last block, so I could really scrap it up with greens and whites from all my other blocks. But that's just me. For pattern purposes, I have made it with two shades of green, very close in value, and two white-on-white prints as the background. You're going to sew the triangles into half-square triangles (HSTs). They will be just a little bit larger than they need to be. If you are making a 6" block, trim each HST to 1.5". If you are making a 12" block, trim each HST to 2.5". If you are making an 18" block, trim each HST to 3.5". This trimming is an extra step, but it helps insure accuracy...and it trims off all of those "dog ears"!   We're going to make this block in sections. I've added gray shading in half of the white triangles. The white triangles are your White-1 fabric, and the gray triangles are White-2. Remember, after you sew two triangles together, trim the HST to the proper size: 1.5" for a 6" block 2.5" for a 12" block 3.5" for an 18" block. PINWHEEL UNITS (Make 3)  Sew twelve HSTs with dark green and light green triangles. Trim the HSTs and sew into three pinwheel units. Be sure they look exactly like the illustration. CORNER UNIT #1 (Make 2) Sew two HSTs with dark green and light green triangles, two with light green and white-2, two with dark green and white-2, and two with red and white-1 triangles. Trim the HSTs and sew into two corner units as shown. CORNER UNIT #2 (Make 2) Sew two HSTs with dark green and light green triangles, two with light green and white-1, two with dark green and white-1, and two with red and white-2 triangles. Trim the HSTs and sew into two corner units as shown. BOW UNIT (Make 1) Sew two HSTs with dark green and red triangles, and two with light green and red triangles. Trim the HSTs and sew into one unit as shown.   CENTER UNIT (Make 1) Sew one HST with red and white-1 triangles, one with red and white-2, and two with white-1 and white-2 triangles.  Trim the HSTs and sew into one unit as shown. ASSEMBLY Lay out the units as shown. Sew into rows, then sew the rows together to complete the "Welcome Home" block. Anne Wiens
