Hi, Everyone!  It's Jessica here - @jessicadayon- and today. I am sharing my Sun Flare Block with you as part of our MBS At The Sea Shore Summer QAL.  Let's get started!

This post is part of our summer quilt-along series. Find the rest of the posts by clicking {here}.

Fabric A

  • (1) 6½” square
  • (6) 4” squares

Fabric B

  • (4) 3½” squares
  • (2) 4” squares

Fabric C

  • (4) 4” squares

Make Half Square Triangles
Draw a line on the diagonal of the wrong side (1) 4” Fabric A square. Place right sides together with (1) 4” Fabric B square. Sew ¼” away from each side of the marked line. Cut apart at the line and press. Trim each HST to 3½” square.

Repeat with remaining Fabric A, B, and C 4” squares to create a total of (4) 3½” Fabric A + B HSTs and (8) 3½” Fabric A + C HSTs.

MAKE SQUARE IN SQUARE
Mark along the diagonal of each 3½” Fabric B squares. Align one square with the top right corner of the 6½” Fabric A square, right sides together. Sew on the marked line. Trim excess fabric and press.

Sew six units together horizontally, alternating the placement of the colors to make top and bottom unit. Repeat with remaining 3 corners and 3½” Fabric B squares.
Assemble block

Layout block units as shown. Sew together in rows.

This block measures 12.5” square unfinished.

I had lots of fun creating this pattern and making my version of Sun Flare and I hope you like making it too!  If you have any questions, please let me know!  Enjoy!
