At the Seashore - Q&A

Hello from the beach! It's a lovely morning and we hope you are enjoying the sunshine and waves. Today is our Question and Answer post - where we answer the most frequently asked questions.

Let's jump right in!

1.  How do I join the quilt-along?

All of the instructions will be posted HERE on modabakeshop.com. There will also be a comment thread on our Facebook group and a post on Instagram. You do not need to follow along on social media to get the instructions - those spots are just for chatting and sharing (but that is also one of the fun parts of quilting along so we'd love for you to join us!)

2. What are the dates?

The first block post is June 18 and the last post will be shared on August 28.

3. Can a beginner do this?

Yes! Choose one of the simpler settings and stick to blocks you know how to make. Practice your scant 1/4" seam and trim each block to the listed size as you go.  The keys to quilting are: pressing, careful cutting, and an accurate seam allowance. You can do it!

4. What is the finished size of the quilt?

The setting sizes vary so please check out the details of each {here}.

5. How many fat quarters do I really need?

A Moda fat quarter bundle will have plenty for you to choose from! However, if you are pulling from your stash, choose 20-25. That will give you enough variety and prints.

Substitutions:

1/2 yard = 2 fat quarters

1 yard = 4 fat quarters

6. Can I use other precuts like Charm Packs or Layer Cakes?

Absolutely! You will need yardage for background fabric and Charm squares (5") will not be large enough for some of the block components. Layer Cakes will be large enough for the cuts you need but you will likely need yardage of at least one accent fabric.

We can't wait to get started.
