Countdown to Christmas: Quilt Setting

Today we have a couple of ideas for putting the Countdown to Christmas blocks together!

ON POINT SETTING finishes at 51.25" x 51.25". HORIZONTAL SETTING finishes at 48" x 48". Both settings use 25 blocks.

ON POINT SETTING

  • 25 Countdown to Christmas blocks (6" square finished)
  • 7/8 yard sashing
  • 1/2 yard sashing squares and setting squares/triangles
  • 7/8 yard border fabric
  • 1/2 yard binding fabric

HORIZONTAL SETTING

  • 25 Countdown to Christmas blocks (6" square finished)
  • 3/4 yard sashing
  • 1/4 yard sashing squares
  • 7/8 yard border fabric
  • 1/2 yard binding fabric

ON POINT SETTING

Cutting:

  • {A} (2) 5.5" squares cut once on the diagonal for corner setting triangles
  • {B} (64) 2.5" x 6.5" sashing strips
  • {C} (4) 4.25" squares cut twice on the diagonal to yield 16 sashing triangles
  • {D} (4) 9 7/8" squares cut twice on the diagonal to yield 12 side setting triangles
  • {E} (24) 2.5" sashing squares

Cut border fabric into (5) 3.5" x WOF strips. Sew together end-to-end. Cut into (2) 45.25"  side borders and (2) 51.25" top/bottom borders.

Assemble quilt top as shown.

Press well. Add borders as shown.

Baste, quilt, and bind as desired.

HORIZONTAL SETTING

Cutting:

  • (36) 2.5" sashing squares
  • (60) 2.5" x 6.5" sashing strips

Cut border fabric into (5) 3.5" x WOF strips. Sew together end-to-end. Cut into (2) 42.5"  side borders and (2) 48.5" top/bottom borders.

Assemble quilt top as shown.

Press well. Add borders as shown.

Baste, quilt, and bind as desired.

ON POINT SETTING finishes at 51.25" x 51.25". HORIZONTAL SETTING finishes at 48" x 48".
