October?  That means Ma... no, I'm not going to even say it.  Not yet.

This is Block 31 - Dot Dash.  It's by Lynne of Kansas Troubles.  As much as I like her Layered Patchwork... old dog, new trick.  So I go with the traditionally pieced methods.  The background is from Snowberry by 3 Sisters and the blue print is from Ladies Jubilee by Barbara Brackman.

Tammy's beautiful Fall-themed block was made with a gorgeous pumpkin-orange polka dot from Betsy Chutchian's Bramblewood collection and a really nice background fabric.

Now is where it gets a little tricky... while I am an old dog when it comes to learning new tricks, I am a stubborn old dog who likes doing things the way I like doing them.  Which means I had to tweak that big triangle just a little bit.

The background is still Snowberry and the prints are from Lexington by Minick & Simpson and Fern Hill by Jan Patek.  

You knew I'd need to do that again...

For my Fig Tree & Co. block, the dark prints and text background are from the Farmhouse and Chestnut Street collections by Fig Tree & Co. and the circle background is one of my favorites, it's from Ann's Arbor by Minick & Simpson.

To make this variation, here's what I did... Cut 4 squares - 1-1/2" x 1-1/2".  (That's the Aqua.)  Cut 4 squares - 1-7/8" x 1-7/8".  (The Black.)  Cut 2 background squares - 4" x 4" - cut the squares in half once on the diagonal to make four triangles.

Using a scant 1/4" seam allowance, attach two small triangles to adjacent sides of the 1-1/2" squares.  Press the seams towards the triangles.  Center the small pieced triangle in the center of the large background triangle along the long side with right sides together.  There should be about 1/2" on either side.  Stitch a scant 1/4" seam allowance - press the seam toward the background triangle.

With the outside edges of the 1-1/2" square on the 3" lines of a ruler, trim the unit to measure 3" x 3".  The seam between the 1-1/2" square and the small triangles should be at the 1-1/4" lines of the ruler.  (I tried to take a picture with the ruler on top of the pieced square but (1) there was glare from the ruler and (2) you could see that the red square is not exactly square.)

Question of the Week ~ Is there something quilt-related on your “bucket list”?  A quilt you’d like to make, a show you’d like to see, a quilter you’d like to meet, etc.

More time to sew.  Does that count?

When I think about what might be on my quilt-related "wish list", what comes to mind is time... time to make the quilts I have in my head and to learn how to do all the things I still don't know how to do.  (That's a really, really long list.)  I am still trying to find a balance between the quilts and sewing I do for work, and the quilts and sewing I want to do for no other reason than "this is what I want to make".

And of course, I want to use up all of my fabric.
